Thiba Ward MCA James Kinyua Mutugi who moved the motion said that the drug is posing an immense danger to the general health and conduct of students in the county.

He told the Assembly that unscrupulous businessmen had taken advantage of the laxed regulatory environment to sell prohibited drugs especially bhang packaged as Kuber.

"Due to the easy access of the drug, traders have established outlets near schools targeting school going children and selling Kuber to them as mouth fresheners. The kids have no idea that it is a dangerous drug," said Mutugi who is also the county deputy speaker.

He noted that more students are now using drugs and it has often led to school unrests, strikes, truancy, and indulgence in criminal activities among other undesired social vices.

“I call upon this assembly to pass this important motion to safeguard our children against the use of this drug,’’ Mutugi said.

While seconding the motion, Mutithi Ward MCA Jenaro Njaamumo said that there is an urgent need to curb drug abuse especially in all the institutions of learning.

Consequently, the assembly resolved that the County Government should put in place compliance and enforcement measures.
