Matiang'i said rape suspects should be dealt with in accordance with the law.

"Why should an adult rape a minor? Elders are there to help one get a wife. Rape is a crime which is punishable by law. Police officers should not spare rape suspects who deserve to be jailed," he said.

The Cs threatened that local chiefs where rape cases will be reported and the suspects defended locally will be sacked and prosecuted.

"Local government officers who will be found defending rape suspects will be sacked and arraigned in court. The same way the suspects will have no mercy on minors is the same way they will be dealt with as provided in the law," said Matiang'i.

Matiang'i urged parents to stop leaving their young children with people with bad behaviors.

"Parents should not leave their daughters to immoral men who may take advantage of the minors to defile them. Parents and guardians should ensure their children are left on the hands of good people," he noted.

Matiangi was speaking on Tuesday when he toured Wajir County to assess the security situation in the region.
