Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago has challenged Opposition leader Raila Odinga to directly ask President Uhuru Kenyatta to give him a job in government instead of seeking to amend the constitution to create more positions.

Mandago says calls for a referendum were part of schemes by Odinga and his foot soldiers to indirectly seek to be included in government.

The vocal Jubilee governor has however reminded the opposition leader that his plans will fail miserably saying “even if we change the constitution you will not get the position you want".

"We changed this constitution in 2010 because some people wanted to ascent to power but they did not so even if we change now they will still not get what they want,” said Mandago in Eldoret town on Tuesday.

"Instead of taking Kenyans in circles in the name of amending the constitution why can’t he just directly ask for a job and the President or his Deputy will definitely not lack a vacant place to put him,” he added.

Mandago pointed out that the nation was preparing for the boundaries review and national census which are more important than a referendum.

“We need to focus resources on ensuring boundaries review and the census is a success and not a referendum to create space for one or two Kenyans,” he said.
