A research done by the Department of Humanity, University of Nairobi on accountability and transparency in devolved units has been dismissed as ‘gray and flawed’.
The research, which was published and circulated in social media showed that majority of the Governors will not bounce back in 2017 polls after they scored below 50 percent.
However, aspiring Nyamira Governor Charles Mochama has disputed the research saying it lacked credible touch on the ground after the incumbent John Nyagarama was placed at fifth on governors likely to be elected at 59 percent behind Ali Joho (Mombasa), Issa Timamy (Lamu), Alfred Mutua (Machakos) and Isaack Ruto (Bomet).
“I am mesmerized to see a county that practices maladministration of the highest order is ranked as one of the best in transparency and accountability. The researchers were so gray and the entire process was flawed because it doesn’t reflect the feeling of people,” Mochama said.
“The ground is hostile to the Governor and he has been booed in more than one occasion. The county government must have compromised the researchers to favour them and this is completely unacceptable,” he added.
He accused the county government of grand corruption and nepotism, calling for investigation in tendering processes.
“This government t is corrupt and we don’t need additional evidence to substantiate that. We all know of Sh7 million gate, skewed tendering where family members of governor are beneficiaries and many more. We call upon EACC to investigate tendering process in the county,” he said.
The county government has not reacted to the findings of the research other than a similar post that was done by Senior Principal Communication officer Dan Onyancha in various social meda platforms praising the research.
