Mombasa County has been on the political limelight for the better part of the year as political heavyweights fight to tame the threat posed by newcomers.
Since making a huge plunge into politics, former KTN journalist Mohamed Ali is the man who has taken the county by storm as his growing popularity is proving to be ODM’s new headache in Mombasa.Despite losing in the ODM nominations, the award-winning journalist never lost hope as he quickly quit the party to run as an independent candidate. With less than two weeks remaining to the August 8 poll, ODM is fighting to tame his wave.Governor Hassan Joho who is the party's deputy party leader last week made direct intervention to campaign for the ODM candidate, Said Abdalla, who happens to be his cousin. However, Ali's popularity seems to be eclipsing Joho and ODM brigade's charm offensive in the region. As it is now, the veteran journalist is on course to spoil ODM's ambition to win all the six parliamentary seats in the coastal county, where the party enjoys fanatical following.
