A Kisumu County gubernatorial candidate in 2017 polls Dr Hezron Mc'Obewa on Monday toured Dunga beach in Kisumu and engaged fishmongers.
Mc'Obewa announced that through Ogra Foundation, girls from poor families will be identified for an educational programme.
He mandated Dunga Beach Unit officials to identify these girls in the area to benefit from the programme starting next week.
He said the programme will enroll 500 girls in the age bracket of 15-21 years.
“I want the community leaders to come up with the girls they feel deserve to benefit from this programme,” he said.
Mc'Obewa said vulnerable girls who might be orphans and are heads of their families will also be given a monthly stipend for survival.
Women fishmongers in Dunga appealed to Mc'Obewa to come to their aid and build them a shed to cushion them from rain and sunlight.
Dr Joshua Oron of Omega Foundation asked the women to join National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) for proper medication.
Oron pledged to come to the aid of the women and Dunga Beach community by supplementing the NHIF monthly contributions.
“NHIF will help you people receive medication even at a time you don’t have any money. Please embrace the idea,” he said.
Officials of Dunga took time to recount some of the good projects they have heard done by Mc'Obewa in the county.
They told him to remain steadfast in his quest for the Kisumu Gubernatorial seat.
