Five students from Kitutu Masaba who will manage grade A in KCSE 2015 results will be admitted to Ivy League Universities of their choice in the United States, aspiring MP has said.
The five will have their fee and accommodation catered for by leading US vehicle manufacturers Ford Company following its close ties with Mr Victor Ogeto.
Speaking on Sunday at his rural home in Iranya after a three weeks long tour to US, Mr Ogeto said the scholarships will be awarded to the top five students from the constituency regardless of their gender.
“I am glad that I secured five scholarships from an American vehicle plant Ford. The five will be sponsored in Ivy League universities in the states and we will go for the order of merit and not gender. Beneficiaries must be strictly students who were born in the constituency,” he said.
Ogeto who is also a leading businessman in motor vehicle industry said the Ogeto Swanya Foundation will be tasked to identify the beneficiaries after the results.
“I know many of our students are studying in various schools across the country but the Ogeto Swanya Foundation will be tasked to cross check and ensure its genuine beneficiaries who will be rewarded,” he said.
He said the foundation will also be mandated to assess the social background of beneficiaries, with those from well-off families overlooked during the picking exercise.
“I know it's tricky because we will also look at the social background of the beneficiaries. But the neediest cases who will score the grade will be given first priority,” added Ogeto.
