Mombasa Governor Aspirant Suleiman Shahbal has vowed to end Governor Hassan Joho's 'Sultan' rule.
Speaking after inspecting Mvita grounds on Friday, where the Jubilee party is set to hold a rally on Sunday, the governor hopeful said he is confident of ousting Joho, the ODM deputy party leader.
“It will be the beginning of the change we have been waiting for in Mombasa. We are staring at the final liberation of Mombasa. We are getting rid of all the nonsense,” said Shahbal as quoted by The Star.
The aspirant added that residents were tired of “politics of dancing and insulting national leaders.”
Shahbal has picked former Mvita MP Ananiah Mwaboza as his running mate ahead of the August 8 general election.
A new survey that was released on Wednesday shows Joho is still the man to beat in the race for the Mombasa governorship.
The findings by Trends and Insights for Africa (TIFA) showed Joho would win by 68 per cent.
The survey further showed that Jubilee's Shahbal would get 15 per cent if elections were held today.
The incumbent governor has been at loggerheads with President Uhuru Kenyatta whom he has accused of taking credit for development projects he did not initiate.
On his side, the President has challenged Joho to account for Sh40 billion the county has received in the past four years instead of criticising his Jubilee administration.
