Political aspirants risk being locked out of their dream elective positions after the Ministry of Education kicked off an exercise to check their academic papers.
This follows claims that some politicians did not graduate with the courses they claim to have done, but rather forged certificates.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is working together with the Ministry, to ensure only qualified candidates are given the chance to be on the ballot box.
Education Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i said his docket is investigating all papers submitted to the IEBC, with aims to lock out those with fake academic credentials.
Speaking in Masimba, Masaba South, Kisii County, he said some politicians may be unhappy with him, but his intentions were not to lock them out.
"We need to have competent leaders who will work for us. We do not need those who forge papers to lead us,'' the CS said Sunday.
