Aspirants eyeing the Bungoma Senatorial seat have cautioned the incumbent senator and Ford Kenya Party leader Moses Wetangula against seeking re-election during the forthcoming general elections.
The aspirants were reacting to reports that the legislator was contemplating seeking re-election despite being poised for a senior government position in the event opposition alliance NASA wins the Presidential elections.
Speaking on Sunday, ODM Bungoma senatorial aspirant Bonny Nyongesa said he was ready to face Wetang'ula, promising a grueling battle that could see him emerge victor.
“Whereas we are alive to the fact that it his democratic right, we are going to treat him not as a principal but as a competitor. We are ready to punch him hard," he said.
On his part, Jubilee candidate and businessman Juma Mukhwana said Wetangula's contemplation go seek re-election shows that NASA lacks confidence of winning the Presidential elections.
Wetang'ula had expressed interest in the Presidency in the forthcoming general elections on a NASA ticket which he lost go ODM Party leader Raila Odinga.
