An aspirant for the Kieni parliamentary seat in Nyeri County was on Tuesday morning attacked by highway robbers on the Nyeri Nyahururu road.
Stephen Muchire and his campaign team were ambushed by a gang of five robbers at a bridge near Solio at 1.30am, as they drove home from a strategy meeting.
Three members of the team, among them Muchire's brother suffered serious injuries inflicted using clubs and metal bars. The aspirant and his driver managed to flee the area and were not injured.
The politician has accused his political opponents of orchestrating the attack, but vowed not to be cowed by the action, as reported by the Daily Nation.
During the attack, the assailants made away with mobile phones and shoes belonging to their victims.
Police officers on patrol arrived at the scene after the attackers had left and rushed the injured to Mary Immaculate Hospital.
Kieni West Divisional Police Commander Joseph Omijah refuted claims that the attack was political as reported by the daily.
