An MCA in Nyamira County has joined the ongoing debate over the assassination remarks allegedly made by controversial Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria saying eliminating Raila Odinga will throw the country into civil anarchy.
Mr Kuria is alleged to have made the comment at Kasarani stadium in Nairobi that assassinating Mr Odinga, the opposition leader, would ease pressure and criticism on President Uhuru Kenyatta‘s government.
And now Nyamira County Assembly Majority leader Laban Maisra wants Kuria arrested for making such ‘reckless’ remarks, prosecuted and jailed to give Kenyans ‘breathing space’.
“Sometimes it worries me that someone like Kuria openly call for the assassination of Mr Odinga, someone who even fought for the freedom of speech he is enjoying right now. Assassinating him will throw the country into civil anarchy that is imaginable,” said Mr Masira.
“Time has come for President Kenyatta to tame his trusted lieutenant or the police arrest him, charge him with incitement for making such reckless remarks. This man should be prosecuted and jailed to give Kenyans breathing space because we are tired of his antics on our party leader,” he said.
Masira also said Cord supporters would take the law into their hands to handle Mr Kuria if the government fails to take stern actions against his latest remarks.
“When Kuria calls for Raila's assassination, I believe he is talking on behalf of someone. As Cord, we cannot allow such silly comments and time has come for us to take personal initiative to tame him if the government cannot arrest him. We have to take precautions and we are not ready for an assassination that can plunge the country to civil war,” he said.
