Addressing hawkers who were evicted from Naivasha town on Thursday in Naivasha, Waithuki said that the house only approved the request by the county government to evict hawkers from the Nakuru CBD and not other towns.

“As the majority leader in the house I don’t remember where and when we gave the governor a go-ahead to evict hawkers from Naivasha and Gilgil towns. What we approved was the eviction of hawkers from Nakuru CBD but what is happening in Naivasha is saddening because unlike Nakuru these hawkers are being evicted without being resettled elsewhere,” said Njane.

He accused Governor Mbugua of abusing his office by working without consulting other county leaders.

“The county has other elected leaders who should be consulted before some things are done and it is wrong for the governor to work on his own without seeking our input. Where will these poor people go to if the person who should be helping them is the one leading their eviction,” he added.

Waithuki called on the governor to respect the rights of hawkers and treat them as human beings saying that most of them have families which depend on them.
