Machakos County Assembly has passed a supplementary budget, allocating the governor Sh12 million for use as pocket money when visiting residents.
The allocation brought a hot debate in the assembly with those who opposed it arguing that projects benefiting the common 'mwananchi' were not given first priority in the budget.
The supplementary budget is meant to help the county complete its development projects.
The budget was mainly to boost county workers' salary and a water project which was recently initiated.
The supplementary budget motion was presented in the house by a member of the assembly and the finance committee chair Isaac Muinde.
Among the issues they noted were not important was the payment of Maruba Dam motorboats which was allocated Sh 2m leaving food programmes arguing that Machakos will soon face drought and therefore the budget should have focused on food programme.
Either those who supported the budget and who were the majority said that the budget is very important as it will help the county complete projects which had stopped due to lack of funds.
They also urged those who were opposing the budget to learn to be patriotic to their own county and not oppose everything in the assembly.
