A motion which will ensure that cerebral palsy units are put up in each sub-county health centre within Nakuru County has been passed by the Nakuru County Assembly.
The motion, which was brought to the assembly and sponsored by nominated MCA Beatrice Nyawira will encourage the county government, together with the national government to buy modern equipment for the hospitals.
Speaking outside the assembly buildings earlier Tuesday afternoon, Nyawira said that the motion was debated last week, and was successfully passed.
"The number of young children who are suffering from this condition has increased in a very alarming rate. That is why I came with this motion, which is aimed at ensuring that the county government puts up very special units for them. It is our obligations as leaders to ensure that the needs of such people is looked upon,” said Nyawira.
Nyawira went ahead and said that most parents hide their sick children for fearing that they will be discriminated, which denies them their rights.
“I urge parents who have children who are suffering from this condition not to hide them. They should bring out such children so that they can interact with others. Hiding children will do more harm as compared to bringing them out,” she adde.
Nyawira went ahead and said that the units will ensure that the children receives much specialized care and needs.
