Kisumu County assembly is set to implement paperless means of communication to reduce the cost of printing by April 1, this year.

In a motion tabled yesterday by Nyalenda B Ward representative James Were, he said that the assembly spends millions to buy papers, toners to print out motions and order papers.

"The reason for doing this was to reduce the cost of printing, the cost of buying papers the cost of buying tonners and the reduce the cost of photocopying reports," said Were.

He added: "If we visit the website of Nairobi County assembly all the order papers, motions and report are posted for the members the public to see and MCAs to access before the assembly business."

Nyalenda B MCA said that the platform will enhance proper research as the business is known before assembly starts and members of public get information easily.

Last year all the Kisumu County assembly member received IPad tablet to enhance service delivery in the county assembly.

"Assembly cannot run two budgets at the same time the assembly uses a lot of money in buying the communication gadgets for members and assembly cannot continue wasting a lot of money in buying paper doing photocopying and printing while this is something that can be avoided," said chairman Finance Committee.

He added: "It is my concern that the members are compelled to use their communication gadgets, ICT department be enhance to embrace the digital system."
