Elders in Uasin Gishu have urged the county assembly to approve the naming of major roads, streets, and avenues within Eldoret town after heroes.
This, the elders say, will allow one of the road to be named after the Kalenjin community's legend Koitalel Arap Samoei among other heroes.
According to Myoot council of elders coordinator, Major (Rtd) John Seii, the naming of the roads after community heroes is one way of recognizing the role they played in the founding of the Kenyan nation.
"As a show of respect to our heroes, the Assembly needs to pass a law that will allow the county government to name some of the Eldoret town roads after individuals who fought for the freedom of this country like Koitalel as many others," Seii said in Eldoret on Tuesday during a meeting between Kalenjin Elders and the Uasin Gishu County Assembly leadership.
Assembly's leader of majority Josphat Lowoi agreed with the sentiments reiterating the need for recognition of the elders' contribution to nation building.
On his part, the Assembly Speaker David Kiplagat said they would keep engaging the elders so as to promote harmony in the county.
