The police have come under criticism over use of excessive force in dispelling the crowd of demonstrators in Nairobi and other parts of the country where the demonstrations have been held.

However, the main question is whether the demonstration was peaceful or not.

There are videos which have been doing rounds on social media showing police dispersing the demonstrators with teargas while others being clobbered in the process.

Before the police can take blame, it is critical that people think on both sides of the coin.

In Kenya, 'peaceful' demonstration, as they always start, end in riots where the demonstrators hurl stones and insults to the police, loot and vandalise property and this is viewed as not being bad.

What if the police were on the receiving end? Would the political leaders be criticising citizens come to their support?

I do not think so. They would have still been blamed for laxity in their work or maybe poor organisation.

The police are also human beings and they will be angered and infuriated with the stones and insults hurled at them.

For peace, Cord and Kanu leaders should embrace other means of solving the issue of IEBC and prevent the cat and mouse game with the police.
