Matuu Traders Association chairman Judah Ndawa has condemned the battles between the police and bodaboda operators.
Ndawa says a fight which occurred on Monday evening at around 8pm and went on for hours with police officers being forced to use tear gas was a shame. The incident disrupted normal activities in Matuu shopping centre.
Speaking on Tuesday in Matuu town, at the Constituency Development Fund bodaboda shed, Ndawa criticised the act by both the bodaboda operators and by police, urging each side to act according to the law.
“It is an illustration of disrespect, seeing business people engage in a battle with the officers who are mandated with providing security in your working environment,” said Ndawa.
Ndawa further called upon the operators to comply with the rules and expectations they agreed for security purposes during their working time.
“As a business operator, ensure you have the license, the reflectors and helmets so that when a security officer inspects you, he will not find you with fault," said Ndawa.
The officers were also advised not to harass bodaboda operators.
“The police officers are not supposed to arrest any bodaboda operator at 8pm or any other time as the working time agreed upon is 11pm,” said Ndawa.
