Bahati Constituency University and College Students Association now want Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri recalled, following an alleged assault on Dagoretti North MP Simba Arati in the National Assembly during the debate of the Security Amendment Bill on Thursday.
According to their Chairman, Ngatia Kigondu, Kimani Ngunjiri’s action was a big embarrassment to the electorate and also an assault on democracy.
“We as students think that the MP has actually fallen short of his integrity and has derogated from the acceptable norms in the society. We therefore have embarked in a process of recalling him from the parliament on the strength of issues that have been canvassed above,” said Kigondu.
Speaking to journalists on Sunday in Nakuru town, Kigondu added that the unruly behaviour cannot be allowed to go on unchallenged, and also unregulated especially by a state officer in the status of an MP.
“Our association, which has more than 1,000 members have already suspended the MP from being our patron due to his conduct in the Assembly on Thursday. We arrived at this decision after very massive consultations with the lawyers, colleagues and the people of Bahati Constituency,” added Kigondu.
