Those operating between Athi River's Devki and Kinanie Shopping Centre reportedly charge Sh500 up from the normal Sh100.

"I have spent Sh600 from Devki to get herein Kinanie Shopping Centre ona bodaboda, I usually spend Sh100 on normal days," said resident Mike Muli.

Muli spoke to this writer at the centre on Friday.

The operators inflated the fares after floods toppled Mto Wa Mawe bridge in Athi River hampering transport on Mombasa Road on Thursday evening.

They argue they had hiked the charges since the roads were sleepery due to heavy rains and flooding that has affected most of the areas in AthiRiver and its environs.

"Due to heavy rains, we are diverting to Daystar for us to get to Kinanie Shopping Centre which is a long route. The charges have to increase," said Musila Patrick, bodaboda operator.
