Head teachers from Athi River sub-county should be alert on floods as schools re-open for the second term.
This is according to the area director of education Joseph Kiema who said most of schools in the region were flooded.
“I call on all head teachers from schools within Athi River sub-county to be on high alert during the ongoing rains since most of the schools are flooded already,” said Kiema.
Kiema said children who attend schools in boarding schools in the region should be escorted by either their parents or guardians during the schools’ reopening and hand them over to their teachers.
He said those who go to day schools in the region should be all escorted to school during the harsh weather in the region to avoid risking the lives of children.
According to Kiema, there was no reported incidences of either children or teachers who had been affected by the floods even though a number of schools especially those along Rivers Athi and Mto Wa Mawe were over flooded already.
Kiema said Kasuitu Primary, Kicheko Primary, Kinanie Primary and Kaanani Primary Schools were all flooded.
He however noted that all public schools in the sub-county both primary and secondary had been successfully re-opened despite the flash floods being experienced in the region.
Kiema said the affected schools would be temporarily closed down if the situation worsens to avoid risking lives of children and teachers.
