Athi River deputy county commissioner Geoffrey Omoding’ has been promoted to County Commissioner.
Omoding’ who was among the few deputy county commissioners promoted by the Interior CS Fred Matiang’i recently is now the Bomet County Commissioner. The former deputy county commissioner has officially moved to his new work station.
Omoding’ served as Athi River deputy county commissioner shortly between 2016 and January 2018. His promotion has been received with praises from Machakos County residents with a majority saying he served in Athi River with lots of dignity, professionalism and humanity.
“We are very happy with commissioner Omoding’s promotion, he ought to had been retained in Machakos County as the commissioner,” said resident George Odhiambo.
Speaking to this writer in Athi River on Friday, Odhiambo said the administrator served for a short time but brought lots of positive changes in Athi River. He mentioned the construction of Mlolongo assistant county commissioner and chief’s offices as some of the Omoding’s initiatives.
He also noted that security improved during the county commissioner’s error as the deputy county commissioner in the region.
Athi River residents are now worried about their next deputy county commissioner. They have expressed fears that they might not get a ‘gentleman’ like Omoding’ whose passion and dedication for public service keeps him in office from 8.00am until 5.30pm when he leaves from Monday to Friday unless there are reasons for him to be out.
The residents have called on the government to vet before posting a deputy county commissioner to the position which Omoding’ has left vacant in Athi River.
