The Athi River based Export Processing Zone (EPZ) has proven to be the major women employer in the region having absorbed almost 80% of the women who job seek in the town.

This is according to Joseph Gathuri, a manager at Protex EPZ Limitted Garment for Export, one of the many companies within the zone who said the industrial centre had absorbed thousands of women.

Gathuri said his company a lone had engaged over 800 women who worked full time in various departments giving them opportunities to earn farely favorable livelihoods.

He said Protex EPZ had envisioned to empower women in the society hence reason why it absorbed the number revealing it was much higher than that of men.

The manager disclosed EPZ had lots of companies that had engaged women of all ages in their operations revealing that there were lots of light jobs which the weak gender could do.

He said the companies had better opportunities for the weaker sex as compared to many inndustries in the region that exposed women to hard labor without considering they were women alongside exploiting them.

Gathuri who was addressing press in his office yesterday, said most of the companies within the zone paid reasonable wages to their female casuals ranging from shs. 15,000 to 30,000.

He called on more women who were job seeking to visit Athi River Export Processing Zone Authority early next year as it begins to find out job opportunities available since thre were more companies and investments coming up.
