Mavoko Sub County has started receiving water from Noi Terush Pipeline in Kilimanjaro in a bid to meet the high demand of the commodity in the region.
Addressing the press from his Athi River office on Monday, Mavoko Sub County Officer Joanes Mwaka said the region has been receiving 4 million liters of water each day from the pipeline for the past two weeks.
Mwaka said Athi River's Daystar University, Premarosa Flower Company and public and private secondary schools were the major beneficiaries with individual pipe connections to serve various residents through water taps.
He said the water ministry is committed to meeting the high demand for water by the residents arguing Athi River had seen more structures coming up since it is the only place with adequate land for expansion from Nairobi City hence increased population.
"Athi River is the only place with land for expansion hence need for more water provision by the providers to meet the increasing demand," said Mwaka.
The officer said the fact that Athi River is an industrial town with many more new companies coming up meant its water demand is equally very high and therefore needed more water from multiple sources.
Mwaka said the ministry had already handed over the Athi River's Noi Terush Pipeline to Mavoko Water and Sewerage Company (MAVWASCO) to manage as the region's legitimate water provider.
