Athi River health centre in Machakos county has embarked on a campaign to kick measles out of the county.
The measles-Rubella immunisation campaign is part of the national Sh2.1 billion budget campaign, under the ministry of health, to curb measles in children and tetanus in girls and women.
The ministry of health has partnered with Unicef and World Health Organization to roll out this campaign.
For two days now, the Athi River health centre ambulance has been crisscrossing the county, with mounted loudspeakers, inviting the residents of Mavoko to take their children for immunisation.
The measles-Rubella immunisation exercise will kick off today May 16 and proceed till May 24 2016.
It targets children aged 9 months to 14 years and girls/women aged 14-49 years for maternal neonatal tetanus vaccination.
It is believed that Rubella (German measles) is capable of causing miscarriages in pregnant women.
The exercise will be conducted at Athi River health centre, near Mavoko law courts.
