Residents of Mavoko and Athi River in Machakos County will get access to free water from County boreholes that will be drilled by the County government in a period of 3 years.Through Machakos County deputy Governor Engineer Francis Maliti the County government has promised residents that it will find lasting solutions to perennial water shortage in Mavoko, especially in Mlolongo and Athi.Maliti said that over 10 boreholes will be drilled across the sub-county in a bid to have structured engagement between the County government and the local water company so that the latter can supplement the supply. "Ultimately, our long-term goal is to de-silt both Portland and KMC dams and engage the National Government and other stakeholders to ensure adequate and consistent supply for our people," said Maliti.The Deputy Governor said that providing direct employment to 54,000 Kenyans, the Processing Zone is of huge economic importance to the county and he assured the of unwavering support. Present in the meeting were Ms. Ruth Mutua (CEC Water), Ms. Grace Munguti (Ag. County Sec), Meshack Kimeu (GM, Operations), Jonathan Chifallo (GM, Investments and Corporate Communications), Tom Saigwa (GM, Commercial &Technical Services), Peter Wanaina (Reg. Manager, Athi River and Eastern Region) and Moses Kipkebut (Asst. Manager, Promotions).
