Pupils from Athi River Primary School in Mavoko sub-county have finally conducted its government’s elections, says head teacher John Mwania.
Addressing this writer at his office in the school on Wednesday, Mwania said the elections were conducted on Tuesday as opposed to Monday as had been planned earlier.
“We never conducted the pupils’ elections on Monday as we had initially planned, we instead had the elections on Monday,” said Mwania.
Mwania said the dates were changed to allow for an annual general meeting with the parents routinely had by the school yearly at beginning of the year.
“We actually swapped the dates, the pupils elections were to be conducted on Monday and the annual general meeting on Tuesday but we had them vice versa,” said Mwania.
The head teacher said the exercise was successful since all the children got time and opportunity to elect their favorite candidates to represent them in various positions for the next one year.
“The children were so happy and excited to cue awaiting to cast their votes for several candidates of their choices without any form of intimidation, I as the school head teacher am also happy because the school has now complied to provisions of the new circular recently circulated to schools across the country by the Education Ministry,” he said.
Mwania said the children elected the school’s President, deputy president, speaker, senators, governors, members of parliament and members of county assemblies.
Mwania lauded the children for cooperating with their teachers to ensure the elections were successful.
