Athi River deputy county commissioner Geoffrey Omoding’ has cautioned residents against making illegal electricity connections on Kenya Power lines.
Omoding’ said the illicit connections expose locals to great danger especially fire outbreaks resulting from electric faults.
He spoke to this writer at his office in Athi River town on Friday.
Omoding’ said Kenya Power Company should investigate structures with such connections which are many in the region especially in slums to avert the situation.
He said several houses which had gone in flames in the sub-county in past three months were linked to electric faults.
Omoding’ said land lords whose property are found connected to the electricity grid illegally will be held accountable.
He said land lords, tenants and home owners should all be responsible to avoid unnecessary fire outbreaks alongside being arrested.
Omoding’ said slum residents should not burn down their homes to attract humanitarian support.
