Headteachers and principals from schools in Athi River Sub County have been warned against conducting tuition.
Addressing the press at his office on Monday, Athi River deputy county commissioner Geoffrey Omoding said tuition was illegal in all schools both public and private countrywide.
Omoding said teachers practising the illicit trade will be in for it.
He said teachers should abide by all rules and regulations of the teaching practice.
The administrator said teachers should desist from making children tired by conducting ‘remedial’ lessons.
Omoding made the warning barely a week after parents with children learning at Athi River Primary School in Mavoko, Machakos County was told to pay Sh 1,000 for their children’s tuition fee.
The school’s headteacher Joel Mwania said all parents with children in classes 6 – 8 must pay Sh 1,000 for each child per term.
Mwania spoke during a parent’s meeting at the school last Thursday.
He said the children will be offered remedial studies early in the morning and late in the evening on daily a basis.
Mwania said morning lessons start at 6.00am to 7.30am while the evening ones begin at 5.00pm – 6.00 p.m.
“All the parents with children in classes 6 – 8 in this school should pay the tuition fees as stated. Those who do not want can leave, their children will not be forced to attend the remedial classes.
Omoding said police will investigate and crack down on schools where teachers conduct the unlawful tuitions.
