St Judes Catholic Church youth have embarked on a one year manual work as a community charity service.
Speaking to this writer in Athi River Health Centre while offering their voluntary services on Wednesday, the group's chairman Jeremiah Gakinya said they will give back to the community for one year.
"The Pope gave us this year as Catholic Church youth as a year of mercy, we have decided ourselves into three groups one conducting manual work at the hospital, another at our church and the third one has visited Bondeni children home to give hope to the needy children by provided with clothing, shoes and an assortment of food stuff," said Gakinya.
Gakinya said the charity comprises of clean ups alongside engaging the youth in campaign against drug and substance abuse in the community to ensure drug free society.
"As human beings, we have the duty of service. It is our duty as young people to engage the needy in the society, it will make us grow knowing that we have a responsibility to do," said Gakinya.
"I make a wake up call to Kenyan leaders to understand we have a lot of things we need to do as collective responsibilities, the needy and poor persons are looked down upon by the communities they come from. If left like that, they will be hopeless hence need to be given hope in life," said Gakinya.
