Athi River District youths have lauded President Uhuru Kenyatta for initiating the slums upgrading projects geared towards facelifting slums alongside improving youths livelihoods.
Addressing press in Athi River town on Friday, Makadara youth group members led by their chairperson Joram Chege said the project was noble and credible to the youth.
“On behalf of Athi River youths we thank President Uhuru Kenyatta for his noble slums upgrading project which is changing faces of slums and youths livelihoods,” said Chege.
Chege said that most of the slums in Kenya’s major towns were inhabitable due to their filthy status exposing children and youths to abject poverty.
He said such environments do not motivate children to grow with high ambitions which can make them work hard in school and prosper in lives.
The chairperson commended the president for undertaking the project in various parts of the nation without biaseness and based on the need arguing it is a sign of true statesmanship.
He said Kenyans should join hands in supporting the initiative without politicising it.
“This project will help to transform our country,” said Chege.
Chege however called on youths from Athi River District and Machakos County to work hard and stop lazying around in a bid of contribution towards developing the nation and also improving livelihoods.
