Children who dropped out of school for various reasons in Athi River Sub County have been urged to go back to school or seek alternative education in informal centres.
The call was made by the area sub-county director of education, Joseph Kiema.
Speaking in Athi River town on Wednesday, Kiema said there are high hopes for those who did not complete their basic education due to one reason or another.
Kiema said that there were so many cases of school drop outs especially in among children from the slums in the region some of who could not afford basic primary and secondary education.
He said though primary education is free in all public schools across the country, not all families from the region can afford maintaining and sustaining children in school until they successfully sit their KCPE examinations.
Kiema also noted that the alternative system of education could help young mothers either single or married to get back to class and attain KCPE and KCSE certificates.
He said in informal education, a child sits for his KCPE in normal eight years and KCSE in two years time.
The officer said the syllabus in secondary education is condensed in two years so as to allow young mothers to attend class and clear school while fending for their children.
