The slum dwellers who spoke to this writer in their make shift homes on Tuesday said they were ignored and living under pathetic conditions especially during the ongoing heavy rains.

"We are ignored Kenyans in an ignored slum by both the national and Machakos County government, all of us dwelling in this slum live under pathetic conditions," said resident Benson Makau.

Makau (26) who has 13 children and one wife said their makeshift houses most of which are made out of used carton papers were in terrible conditions since they had been submerged by the storm waters that had flooded the slum.

Joan Kanini, single mother of two said she and her children were living at God's mercy since she cannot afford food, clothing, and school fee for her children.

"We keep waiting each day for any wellwisher who comes around the slum for us to have a meal, I can neither afford food for my children nor water for domestic use that goes at Sh20 for a 20litre jerrican," said Kanini.

Joseph Mwangi said as residents of the slum,  they were suffering because they did not have basic amenities like latrines, health facilities, public schools, police posts hence leading difficult lives.

Mwangi said the public schools were several kilometers away from the slum hence their children spent lots of time going to the learning institutions during the school calendar.

He said the situation had forced several children drop out of school thereby shuttering their future dreams.

The residents said they had lost hope and urged well-wishers especially from cooperate world alongside development partners to get to their rescue and restore hope to the children.
