Squatters residing at Kwamboo Village, Kinani Location in Machakos County are demanding recognition by the government claiming they have been sidelined.
Addressing the press at Kinani Health Centre on Wednesday, the squatters said they were tired of getting frequent attacks from the people they said were agents of a foreigner who wanted to forcefully evict them from their homes.
Through their village elder Julius Kinyatte, the residents said all their attempts to seek assistance from the area provincial administration and police had never been fruitful.
Kinyatte disclosed that in spite of insecurity in the area, not even basic social amenities were provided by the government, both national and county.
"In spite of extreme insecurity in this village that has seen over 50 houses set ablaze and demolished in the last 4 months leaving several families homeless, we are also denied other constitutional rights," said Kinyatte.
He said water was a nightmare in the village which is several miles from Kinani shopping centre arguing they had been sidelined.
The elder said their children stayed at home herding cattle since they were far from school alongside the fact that their parents had no reasonable livelihoods to provide for basic education requirements.
According to him, majority of the young men from the village had fled to major towns to look for jobs leaving their parents helpless in the bush.
Kinyatte called on immediate intervention of both the governments to ensure they received their constitutional rights just as those from other parts of the county claiming they were also Kenyans and tax payers.
