Teachers from schools in Athi River sub county have been cautioned against employing corporal punishment.
The warning was issued on Friday by the area director of education, Joseph Kiema.
Addressing a primary head teachers' meeting at KMC DEB Primary School, Kiema said corporal punishment in school was unacceptable and unlawful.
Kiema said teachers found punishing children will face disciplinary action that might include both prosecution and sacking from the service.
"I am aware that there is no much corporal punishment among teachers in Athi River sub county, we however know there are a few cases that have never been reported though," said Kiema.
Kiema called on all teachers from the region to comply to their professional codes of conduct alongside the Kenyan law to avoid finding themselves in the receiving ends.
He said there were alternative ways of ensuring children were well behaved in schools instead of inflicting pain in them through corporal punishment.
The meeting was attended by primary head teachers of all schools from the region.
Kiema urged them to be good managers and guide their teachers so as not to use corporal punishment to instill discipline in the children they teach.
