Turkana County Governor Josphat Nanok has said the bandit attack in Lokori, Turkana East early this week was politically triggered.
The attack left two people dead, several others injured and several houses torched by the attackers who later escaped with unknown number of livestock.
“With few days to go to the general elections, these attacks raise questions of whether there is a political hand behind it all in bid to deny residents of Turkana East an opportunity to exercise their democratic duty,” Nanok said.
He pointed out that it is no coincidence that the attack is happening weeks before Kenyans vote in the general elections.
He asked acting Interior Cs Dr. Fred Matiangi to deploy security officers in the region to boost security.
“No more life must be lost and peace must be restored in Turkana East and the entire county. It is our belief that the government still considers the duty of protection of life and property as one of the mandates handed to them by Kenyans,”added Nanok.
