Devolution and Planning Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri has cautioned Opposition alliance NASA against using the high prices of maize flour and sugar as a campaign tool ahead of the forthcoming general elections.
Speaking on Saturday, Kiunjuri noted that the government will put stringent measures to ensure that prices of commodities stabilize, accusing NASA of making the subject a campaign tool.
“Unga matters will not be your campaign agenda to woo voters. In fact, by next week, prepare to drop it because the problem would have already been solved by importing maize,” he said.
The outspoken CS further accused the Opposition of being responsible for the high cost of maize flour, claiming that allies of top NASA leaders were engaging in cartel business in the maize milling sector.
“Who imports sugar and maize in this country? They are cartels at the coast who are friends to the Opposition. So they, NASA, should stop blackmailing the president because those cartels are responsible for controlling of prices,” he noted.
