Residents of Riamoni location in Kituti Masaba constituency who will abscond village Barazas  will be subjected to community punishment, Riamoni chief Francis Rasugu has said.

Speaking on Thursday at Ikuruma village, Mr Rasugu accused residents of overlooking the Barazas whose main significance is to discuss matters security and government policies to ordinary citizens.

He said the recent attendances across the location was appalling and warned those inciting residents against attending or those failing to attend of impending harsh punishment.

“Barazas are there to stay and no one will oppose them as long as I am in charge. We use them as avenues to discuss matters security and development besides putting across government agendas to the people. Whoever will miss them will be subjected to harsh community work,” he said.

Mr Rasugu asked village elders to take roll calls of attendants in every Baraza so that his office can be able to take decisive actions against offenders.

“I direct village elders to take roll calls in their respective villages so that we can be able to punish those who fail to attend,” he added.

However, his announcement was criticised by a section of residents who accused the chief of making life unbearable in the village by introducing outdated policies.

“Those policies are archaic and cannot be used in the modern Kenya. He is only trying to make his role relevant under the new dispensation and we dare him to implement the policy,” said Mr Duke Ogamba on behalf of the residents.
