Attorney General Githu Muigai has warned that the government will hold into accountable public officers liable for any incident of corruption within their jurisdictions.
Githu said that government will not tolerate any form of corruption or unethical conduct by any public official regardless of their status.
According to him,his office will be putting a key consideration on proposal by the Anti-corruption watchdog Commission (EACC) to have all appointment letters for accounting officers to include corruption prevention as one of the terms of the contract, the breach of which should attract a dismissal and other appropriate sanctions.
“If you are a chief executive officer and you are tolerating corruption in your institution, then you have no business being there,” Githu told Mediamax.
“All of us must appreciate that Kenya cannot achieve its Vision 2030 goals and the UN Sustainable Development Goals unless the men and women who are entrusted with public office uphold high standards of integrity,” he said.
Githu’s statement was delivered by State Law office Director, Legal Affairs, John Tuta on Tuesday in Nairobi during the opening of a workshop on responsible commissions on implementation of Chapter Six of the Constitution.
