Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU) secretary general Francis Atwoli has hailed ODM party leader Raila Odinga for not allowing his brother, be given the party's ticket to vie for a parliamentary seat in Bondo.
Oburu Odinga who lost to incumbent Gideon Ochanda during party primaries, protested the otcome, which saw Oburu win, and was later declared the winner.
However, the ODM National Elections Board nullified his victory on Saturday and declared Ochanda the winner, following rigging complaints.
Atwoli praised the decision made by the ODM Board saying that was democracy.
“Raila did very well by not allowing his brother Oburu to be given a free ticket. That is a democracy we want and that is a precursor to a peaceful election,” Atwoli said.
The trade unionist was speaking at Uhuru park, Nairobi, during Labour Day celebrations.
