COTU secretary general Francis Atwoli has expressed his displeasure with Kenya Airways CEO Sebastian Mikosz after his "attempt" to hire Polish managers.

According to the Star, KQ hired five executives from Poland, something Atwoli said should never have happened with Kenyans seeking jobs.

Monika Kietyka-Michna, Edyta Kijewska-Teny, Magdalena Serwach, Marcin Celejewski and Micha Mierciak were hired in anticipation of a possible shakeup at the flight company.

But in a press release on Thursday, Atwoli said the national carrier should always hold Kenyans' interests dear.

"Even if Kenyan banks have mobilised funds to save the airline, the funds comes from taxpayers," Atwoli said.

"Kenya Airways, being a national carrier and a major brand promoter of our country, should also have the face of Kenya in its diversified executive," he added.

"It is totally unacceptable for the CEO to hire managers from his former employer LOT Polish Airlines. Mikosz must read the legal requirements of qualifications and nationalities of who qualifies to be employed by Kenya Airways," he added.

He vowed that his union will not allow the CEO to hire anyone from beyond East Africa.
