Reacting to the nomination,  Central Organization of Trade Union (COTU) secretary general Francis Atwoli said that the duo cannot work together.

“Sonko has given Kenyans and Nairobi a topic to talk about, according to my view the two cannot get along but in politic is possible” said Atwoli speaking to Jeff Koinage on JKL Live show.

In a letter to the Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Beatrice Elachi, Sonko says Miguna meets all the requirements provided for in the constitution.

“I hereby forward my nominee, Lawyer Miguna Miguna to undergo full vetting process and approval by the County Assembly for the position of Deputy Governor,” reads part of the letter.

According to the constitution of Kenya “A person is not eligible for election or appointment to a State office unless the person is a citizen of Kenya.”

Miguna has been deported twice for lacking Kenyan citizenship.

This news has been received differently by leaders with Nairobi senator Johnson Sakaja who is also a close friend to the governor condemning the act.

"Miguna will not become the Deputy Governor of Nairobi. Take that to the bank," Sakaja declared on Twitter
