Cotu Secretary General Francis Atwoli has said that the Luhya community is set to name its presidential candidate before the end of the year.

Atwoli said that the nami9ng was aimed at ensuring that the region votes as a block in the next general elections.

The Cotu leader said that the focus was not on which party the region was backing but on how to pool together the region's big number of votes.

"This is my agenda and it is going to succeed," Atwoli said on Sunday as reported by the Star.

Atwoli is currently in London on a one week-tour and says that Luhya's living in diaspora have pledged to supports the initiative and will be travelling back to the country to witness the unveiling at Muliro Gardens on December 31.

According to Atwoli, the person who will be appointed will either vie for the presidency alone or pull together efforts with like-minded parties in the quest to enter State House.

Although he did not name the leader to be backed, Amani leader Musalia Mudavadi, Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula and Labour Party leader Ababu Namwamba are among the leaders expected to contest for the role.
