Central Organization of Trade Unions Secretary General Francis Atwoli is ‘lobbying’ for John Munyes to be appointed the Labour Minister.
Speaking on Sunday, the vocal leader said Munyes has worked before in the ministry and would be the best candidate to take over the reins at the ministry.
The former Turkana Senator was among the nine men picked by President Kenyatta when he named his half cabinet team on Friday.
“So we need to have a minister of that type as a minister of Labour, if the president can give us Munyes, I am not campaigning for him though,” he said.
The naming of the cabinet has sparked a debate that Deputy President William Ruto was not happy with the list, but Ruto has refuted the claims.
He has urged Jubilee members to give the president time and the space to pick his team as it is his constitutional right.
With almost half the team already named, many are wondering how the president will handle his closest allies that served him well in his first term in office.
Among those that were not named in the list included Mwangi Kiunjuri, who shelved his ambitions to vie for the Laikipia gubernatorial seat as ‘the president still needed his service in the cabinet’.
Others are Amina Mohamed, Jacob Kaimenyi and Hassan Wario.
