Central Organisation of Trade Unions (Cotu) Secretary General Francis Atwoli has raised the red flag over massive misuse of funds at the Government Advertising Agency (GAA).
In a statement, Mr Atwoli said that GAA was suffocating in a Sh430 million debt owed to a number of media organisations and firms over unpaid government advertising monies.
Atwoli accused individuals at the agency of being unscrupulous and said they were diverting monies away from the mandated tasks.
“The agency has since been invaded by corruption-thirsty individuals in the name of government to solicit bribes as well as divert the very cash meant for advertising into their pockets,” said Atwoli.
He now wants the Ministry of Information to move swiftly to disband the agency and order for an immediate audit, further warning that any delay might result to more losses of public funds.
“Kenyans will soon be treated to yet another scam where government will be forced to pay millions of money to various advertisers including newspapers in arrears when the same cash had already been released through GAA but never reached these advertisers,” Mr Atwoli said.
