Central Organisation of Trade Unions Secretary General Francis Atwoli has made it public the number of children and women he has.

Atwoli at a church service at the Anglican Church of Kenya St Stephen's Cathedral along Jogoo Road on Sunday caused laughter when he boasted of having 15 children and two wives.

The outspoken trade unionist, however, did not state whether all the 15 children belong to the two wives he is officially married to.

He made the remark as he spoke to faithful on the need for the country to remain united at a time a lot of division seem to be emanating in relation to the 2022 presidential election.

"I have two children and two wives," he said to the bemusement of majority of those in attendance during the church services.

"I am rich enough to take care of them. I earn a modest salary that enables me take care of all of them. If I were poor, I am sure they would all run away from me."

Atwoli is among Kenya's longest serving trade unionist and comes from the Luhya community where polygamy is allowed.

He said poverty is a great setback to the progress of many Kenyans in development.

"No one can accept to associate with a poor man. If you are poor, even your children can be taken away from you because you cannot take care of them," he said.
