Atwoli who was addressing a gathering at the Anglican Church of Kenya St Stephen's Cathedral along Jogoo Road said he supports independence party Kenya National African National Union (KANU) and will be a member for life.

"I am KANU, my chairman (COTU) here is KANU and we came from there to take over this labour movement," he said.

He said he was part of the group of young Kenyan politicians who formed the famous Youth for KANU 92, a group that was formed to drum up support for retired President Daniel Arap Moi during the 1992 general election.

The outspoken COTU secretary general who brokered a deal that united opposition chief Raila Odinga and Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi ahead of the August 8, 2017 general polls, however, did not reveal if he had the interest of joining active politics when he leaves the labour movement.

He supported efforts made by Raila and President Uhuru Kenyatta in uniting the country after a prolonged divisive electioneering period in which over 50 people were killed in Post Election Violence (PEV) related incidents.
