The reason for this change of heart is due to the mistrust that the Luhya community has in Deputy President William Ruto.

A Western Alliance will be discussed by leaders on September 19 at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega County.

The Central Organisation of Trade Unions (Cotu) secretary general, Francis Atwoli has said Western Kenya is hesitant to form an alliance with Jubilee because it has completely no faith in Ruto.

“Ruto cannot give you anything and he has lied to the President that he plans to deliver us. We are not sacks of maize and he should stop daydreaming,” said Atwoli.

The Vihiga senator, George Khaniri also commented on the matter stating that Ruto used the respect the Luhya people give him to belittle them.

“DP told his people a pastoralist in his community is better than a Luhya professor but we warn him to expect a rude shock when we unite and send him home,” said Khaniri.

Atwoli is set to host the Luhya elders on September 11 where the Western Alliance will be discussed.
