Central Organisation of Trade Union (Cotu) secretary general, Francis Atwoli, has criticised president Uhuru Kenyatta for bringing up the post-election violence matter.

Uhuru while in his tour in Kisii County, Wednesday, accused the former prime minister of being behind the 2007/2008 post-election violence.

In a statement from Geneve, Switzerland, Atwoli said Kenyans are still healing from the chaos, therefore unearthing the matter may cause havoc in the country.

“The pain, sting and agony that innocent Kenyans went through as a result of a disputed election should never be revisited,” Atwoli said.

“The wounds are still fresh and any slight provocation will easily plunge this country into turmoil. Women children and workers will be affected,” he added.

The Cotu boss said the Head of State should not be uttering such words at such a time when the country is hoping for peaceful polls.

“Uhuru has every administrative machinery at his disposal to deal with any situation that threatens national security, not to remind Kenyans of the 2007/2008 incidents.”

“This should not be coming out especially at this time when Kenyans are united and praying for peaceful elections,” he noted.

He further cautioned politicians across the political divide to keep off from hateful utterances for the sake of Kenyans peace.

“Let political leaders, both in government and the Opposition, keep their loud mouths shut and allow Kenyans to continue praying for peace.”
